My Toronto Story (Staff Edition)

My Toronto Story (Staff Edition)

When I came to Toronto in 2009, I knew that I was going to have a very different and life changing experience. Before even arriving I knew that Canada was going to be awesome! I had heard the people were friendly and respectful with each other and that the city was safe and eco-friendly. When I finally arrived here I could confirm everything was true and I was just amazed.
However, I quickly came to the realization that Toronto, although wonderful, can be very expensive, and that as a student I needed to save as much money as possible. I learned to find my way around and tried to save my money as much as I could so I could survive in the city.

It amazes me how many places you can find good used items such as books, clothes, accessories, furniture, electronics and utensils. Even though they are used they are usually in great shape and you can sometimes even manage to get them for free! There are so many great second hand (or as some like to call them “previously loved”) stores around the city, where you can find anything you need for half of the price or even less. Don’t forget your online options, I love them too! Stores like BMV Books, Value Village, and sites like Kijiji, Craigslist and many Facebook groups can help you find good used items and even free donations. If you are college bound, check out your college boards as they always have people selling their books for cheap!

Remember to always do your research! Google can be your best friend, but we at Mentora can help you as well. We’ve been there and know where to find what you’re looking for (in case google didn’t tell you already). I love helping students find what they need, and if I don’t know at first I will google it or ask around until I find the answer.
